Stamani il mio occhio casca su questo articolo di TUAW: Recent MBPs suffering from ‘narcolepsy’

Come i miei colleghi sanno (mi hanno sentito bestemmiare), da un po’ di tempo incontro un problema simile: la sera spengo il Mac come ho sempre fatto, chiudendo il coperchio e attenendo che la lucina “pulsi”, poi lo rimetto in borsa. L’indomani mattina, nonostante sia acceso, non c’è modo di vedere alcunché sullo schermo.

Le ipotesi formulate in questa discussione sui forum Apple propendono per due spiegazioni:

1- problema di GPU come nei vecchi MBP;
2- problema di sudden motion sensor – quello che impedisce all’HD di andare in pezzi.

Io ho un’altra ipotesi.

Ho ricostruito gli avvenimenti degli stati del demone che gestisce il power management, e pare che il problema sia nato il giorno dopo che ho installato la patch 2010-003 (ovvero quella che serve a tappare i buchi venuti fuori durante Pwn2Own).

Da notare che dall’installazione di quella patch in avanti si sono verificati tutta una serie di problemi con le interfacce di rete (airport e non solo).

Anche dopo aver installato la 10.6.3 a fine marzo era tutto ok, da metà aprile in avanti è una follia.
E va sempre peggio.

Nel weekend proveremo a:

1- salvare il salvabile;
2- ripulire la macchina e rinstallare snow leopard da zero;
3- applicare tutte le patch TRANNE quella del Pwn2Own.

Se funziona, mi faccio un giro all’Apple Store e ne scriviamo su PI.

Non so quali listini abbia consultato Mike Halsey, ma i tablet che ho visto io non costano molto diversamente da quanto costerà iPad (facciamo 650 euro?).

Ah.

Il che significa anche, però, che come è ovvio ci sia un limite fisiologico oltre il quale certi prodotti non vanno.
È lo stesso motivo per il quale Samsung, Nokia e LG vendono molti più cellulari di Apple.

Che poi per i margini convenga stare nella fascia alta del mercato, altro discorso: ma non tutti possono puntare allo stesso target, e credo che gli azionisti Microsoft e HP non siano poi troppo dispiaciuti degli ultimi risultati fiscali delle loro beniamine.
